NeedleSmart is market leading, patented needle destruction technology engineered in the UK. NeedleSmart devices heat hypodermic needles to over 1,300°C before compressing them into a ball. It takes just a fraction of a second to convert a sharp needle into a sterile sphere of metal. Heating the needle to an excess of 1,300°C means all potential harmful pathogens, viruses and bacteria adhering to the needle will be killed. Compressing the needle also significantly reduces the needle footprint leading to a minimum of 50% increase in needle count per sharps bin.

Sterilising the needle to be disposed of and melting it into a safe sphere inside the product allows the waste to be disposed of as non-hazardous rather than hazardous clinical waste, therefore providing considerable cost savings to health organisations. Additional cost savings arise when a NeedleSmart Pro and standard needle are used in preference to expensive safety needles. The process can also contribute to the reduction of NeedleStick Injuries (NSI) and their consequential costs as well as having the potential to reduce the cost and increase efficiency of used needle disposal.
The NeedleSmart Pro has been independently validated at Glasgow Caledonian University with further independent TMQA oversight proving that our device provides viral and microbial safety, does not produce infectious aerosolised particles when the contaminated needles are destroyed and that NeedleSmart treatment denatures all proteins including prions from the needle, rendering it completely sterile.
