eKARE+

By Nikhil Reji, University of Liverpool Added 27th Oct, 2022 Updated 1st Dec, 2022

eKARE+ allows patients to perform remotely prescribed exercises within the comfort of their homes or any environment. Using an inexpensive device, we capture joint movements without the need for markers, and then analyse how well an individual performed the movements.

Through transforming current physical rehabilitation services to become patient-driven and remotely administered, we can increase capacity without a significant increase in the labour force.

About

Current rehabilitation services simply cannot keep up with the demand for them, and increasing capacity requires a larger workforce as most services are performed face-to-face. By transforming current rehabilitation services to become patient-driven and remotely administered, we can increase capacity without a significant increase in the labour force.

eKare+ aims to integrate easily with current rehabilitation services to transition them to a remote setting. Patients can perform remotely prescribed exercises within the comfort of their homes or any other environment. The platform records your movements and provides a report on your performance, used to review your progress and for therapists to monitor your wellbeing.

This innovation not only has a significant impact on the workforce crisis currently witnessed in the NHS, rehabilitation access, and effectivenes, but also on making the NHS more sustainable, reducing the carbon footprint significantly due to the remote nature of the platform.
